A BRIEF HISTORY OF BOURNE
This book written by local historian Rex Needle is intended to be as an introduction to our history, an account of how the town was established in the earliest times and tracing its development through to the present day. The story embraces the growth of agriculture, religion, education and crime, the water industry which became world famous and the arrival of the railways which brought a new prosperity for more than a century. There are also descriptions of our historic buildings and the lives of prominent people who helped this town succeed. The book also contains many photographs, from past times and contemporary, and it is hoped that it will stimulate sufficient interest to inspire further inquiry about our history.
